The FireAvert brand was born from the real life firefighting experience of professional firefighter Peter Thorpe. FireAvert products are specially designed to help prevent stove fires in the home. When a home fire/smoke detector is triggered by food that is left cooking unattended, FireAvert automatically shuts off the stove, so food does not catch fire and potentially cause a larger fire. The brand’s stove shut off device can be found in the inventory of Assisted Living Technologies.
On the brand’s website, Thorpe explains the type of fire catastrophe that his products are designed to help prevent:
En route to a fire, I could see the header of smoke on the horizon. On arrival, we found a large apartment complex with smoke billowing from the structure and occupants fleeing for safety. As we pulled our hoses and forced open the door with the ax, flames and black smoke rolled out of the doorway. Tenants in nearby apartments were coughing as they fled their homes for safety. They watched helplessly as the fire spread towards their apartments. Like many other apartment fires, this tragedy was caused by unattended cooking.
According to a recent report from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), “Overall, cooking equipment was involved in almost half (47%) of reported home fires, 20% of home fire deaths, and 45% of reported home fire injuries.” FireAvert can help lower these statistics.
The FireAvert stove shut off device can increase home safety for elderly and special needs individuals, especially those who have memory and/or mobility problems that could prevent them from properly monitoring cooking food.
